Pearson VUE's Utah outlines give the general portion as 80 scored items across eight areas and the Utah salesperson state portion as 50 scored items across nine areas, six of them as ranges (Real Estate Office Procedures 4-5, Licensee Practice 15-17, Enforcement 4-5, the recovery fund 1-2, Additional State Topics 1-3, Closing Statements 6-8). The ranges are this site's own choice of one number in each range (5, 16, 4, 2, 2 and 7) so the nine areas add to 50. The real exam also carries 5 general and 5 to 10 state pretest items that are not scored; the timed exam here draws only the scored items and runs both portions in the four hours the handbook gives the exam.

2How the Utah sales agent exam works
- Two portions. The exam has a general portion of eighty (80) scored items and a Utah state portion of 50 scored items, 5-10 pretest (unscored) items, plus five (5) pretest items on the general portion that do not count. Each candidate has four (4) hours to complete the examination.
- Passing score. The handbook says The passing score is 70 for the salesperson examination, a scaled score that is neither the number of questions you answered correctly nor the percentage of questions you answered correctly, so the timed exams here score you against a study target instead.
- Retakes. Candidates who pass one section and fail the other need retake only the failed section within six (6) months. You must apply within ninety (90) days of passing both examination components (general and state).
- Fee. The examination fee is $69.

3A sample Utah question
This is one of the Utah questions in the pass, shown with its explanation and the law it comes from.
A sales agent is acting as a limited agent for both the buyer and the seller in the same transaction. Which of the following duties does the agent still owe to both parties?
- Undivided loyalty
- Absolute confidentiality
- Full disclosure of everything learned about the other party
- Holding safe any money or property entrusted to the limited agent
Answer and explanation
Answer D: Holding safe any money or property entrusted to the limited agent
A limited agent acts as a neutral third party but still owes both parties certain fiduciary duties, including holding safe any money or property entrusted to the agent. Undivided loyalty, absolute confidentiality and full disclosure are the duties each party waives when consenting to limited agency, so they are not owed in their full form.
