Pearson VUE's Rhode Island outlines give the national part as 80 scored items across eight areas and the Rhode Island part as 50 scored items across four areas (2, 6, 24 and 18). The real exam also carries 5 national and 10 Rhode Island pretest items. Pearson VUE reports a scaled score, so the timed exam here is not split into separately scored parts; it draws the scored items in those counts, in the combined time the handbook gives the two parts. The outline's agriculture, fire safety, wastewater, nonresident withholding and condominium statutes are not asked.

3A sample Rhode Island question

This is one of the Rhode Island questions in the pass, shown with its explanation and the law it comes from.

A salesperson meets a buyer at an open house and shows the buyer several homes. The buyer has not signed a mandatory relationship disclosure electing representation. Under Rhode Island law, what relationship is presumed between the salesperson and the buyer?

  1. Designated client representative of the buyer
  2. Subagent of the seller
  3. Transaction facilitator
  4. Dual facilitator
Answer and explanation

Answer C: Transaction facilitator

Rhode Island presumes that every licensee in a transaction is a transaction facilitator. The presumption changes only when the licensee obtains the person's informed, written consent through an executed mandatory relationship disclosure to act as a designated client representative. Here no such consent exists, so the salesperson is a transaction facilitator. Designated client representative is the tempting choice, but it requires that written consent.
