Pearson VUE's Alaska handbook gives the general portion as 80 scored items across eight areas and the Alaska law portion of the salesperson exam as 40 scored items in six areas: 4, 4, 10 to 12, 10, 4 to 6 and 6 items (outline effective September 14, 2023). The timed exam here sets the two ranged areas at their middle (11 and 5), this site's own choice, so the counts add to 40. The real exam also carries 5 general and 5 to 10 Alaska pretest items that are not scored; the timed exam draws only the scored items.

2How the Alaska salesperson exam works
- Two portions. The salesperson exam has a general portion of eighty (80) scored items and an Alaska law portion of forty (40) scored items for the salesperson examination, plus five (5) pretest items on the general portion and 5-10 pretest items on the law portion that do not count. Candidates have four (4) hours to complete the examination.
- Passing score. The Commission, with Pearson VUE, set the passing score: With a passing score of 75, the reported score is neither the number of questions you answered correctly nor the percentage of questions you answered correctly, so the timed exams here score you against a study target instead.
- Retakes. Candidates who pass one section of the examination and fail the other must retake the entire examination.
- Fee and application. The examination fee is $115. Apply for your license Within six (6) months of passing the examination.

3A sample Alaska question
This is one of the Alaska questions in the pass, shown with its explanation and the law it comes from.
A real estate salesperson is buying a home for her own residence. Which statement is correct under the commission's rules?
- She is not precluded from using a licensee from another brokerage to represent her
- She must be represented only by a licensee in her own brokerage
- She must proceed without representation because she is licensed
- She must first get approval from the commission to use an outside licensee
Answer and explanation
Answer A: She is not precluded from using a licensee from another brokerage to represent her
The commission's rules state that a licensee is not precluded from using a licensee at another brokerage to represent or assist in the licensee's own personal transaction. She is not limited to her own office. Nothing in the rule requires her to go unrepresented or to get prior commission approval.
