1What is in the pass
- Timed exams, as many as you want. Each one is 130 questions in 210 minutes, with the national portion drawn across Pearson VUE's eight national content areas in the salesperson item counts and the state portion in the item counts of Pearson VUE's West Virginia outline, so a full timed exam is 80 national and 50 state questions, with questions you have not seen yet served first. You get your score against the 70% pass line and a score for each portion, since each portion is passed separately.
- Practice by topic. Pick any of the 8 national content areas or a West Virginia area, or the questions you missed last time. The right answer and the reason appear as soon as you answer.
- West Virginia questions with their law cited. 128 questions on West Virginia rules: the commission's powers, audits, complaints, hearings and discipline, who needs a license and who is exempt, renewal, continuing education, license transfers and inactive status, trust fund accounts and commingling, advertising, teams and trade names, rebates and inducements, the notice of agency relationship form, dual agency, the duties of licensees on contracts and offers, and the West Virginia Fair Housing Act, and more. Each explanation names the West Virginia Code section or Commission rule (174 CSR 1) it comes from, with the date it was read.
- National questions to the outline. 400 questions on the principles every state tests, weighted to Pearson VUE's national content outline, down to each sub-topic. They include the 80 on the free practice exam.
- Your weak topics, tracked. Every answer is recorded in your browser, so the app can show your accuracy by topic and send you back to the areas below the pass line.

Pearson VUE's West Virginia outlines give the national portion as 80 scored items in eight areas (salesperson counts) and the state portion as 50 scored items: 9, 17, 15, 4 and 5. A full timed exam here draws 80 national questions and 50 state questions in those counts, in the handbook's time for each portion; you can also time each portion on its own.

2How the West Virginia salesperson exam works
- Two portions. The salesperson exam has a national portion of eighty (80) scored items in 150 minutes and a state portion of fifty (50) scored items in 60 minutes, plus pretest items that are not scored (five to ten (5-10) pretest items on the state portion).
- Passing score. The handbook lists the salesperson passing score as 70%. It also says the scaled score reported to you is neither the number of questions you answered correctly nor the percentage of questions answered correctly, so the pass line used here is a guide to that figure, not a promise of your scaled result. If you pass one part and fail the other, you retake ONLY the failed part.
- Authorization. Candidates get authorized for ninety (90) days or two attempts (whichever comes first) to pass; once both parts are passed, you have only 90 days to apply for your license.
- Fee. Each portion costs $59 at Pearson VUE.

3A sample West Virginia question
This is one of the West Virginia questions in the pass, shown with its explanation and the law it comes from.
A salesperson is a member of a three-person team at a brokerage and signs a Notice of Agency Relationship form with a new buyer client. Whose names must be listed on or attached to the form?
- Only the salesperson who met with the buyer
- Only the team leader
- Only the responsible broker
- All members of the team
Answer and explanation
Answer D: All members of the team
When a team member signs a Notice of Agency Relationship form, every member of the team must be listed on or attached to that form. A team acts as one agent representative for the principal, so the client must know everyone on it. Listing only the salesperson who met with the buyer is tempting, but it leaves out the other team members.
