1What is in the pass
- Timed exams, as many as you want. Each one is 120 questions in 210 minutes, with the national portion drawn across Pearson VUE's eight national content areas in the salesperson item counts and the state portion in the item counts of Pearson VUE's Pennsylvania outline, so a full timed exam is 80 national and 40 state questions, with questions you have not seen yet served first. You get your score against the 75% pass line and a score for each portion, since each portion is passed separately.
- Practice by topic. Pick any of the 8 national content areas or a Pennsylvania area, or the questions you missed last time. The right answer and the reason appear as soon as you answer.
- Pennsylvania questions with their law cited. 127 questions on Pennsylvania rules: the Commission's hearings and the Real Estate Recovery Fund, who needs a license and who is excluded, continuing education, change of employment, the seller's agent, buyer's agent, dual agent, designated agent and transaction licensee, the consumer notice, written agreements with a broker, escrow accounts and deposit deadlines, advertising, the prohibited acts, the seller's property disclosure statement, agreements of sale, time-shares and the Human Relations Act's housing provisions, and more. Each explanation names the Real Estate Licensing and Registration Act section (63 P.S.), Commission regulation (49 Pa. Code Chapter 35), seller disclosure law (68 Pa.C.S.) or Pennsylvania Human Relations Act section (43 P.S.) it comes from, with the date it was read.
- National questions to the outline. 400 questions on the principles every state tests, weighted to Pearson VUE's national content outline, down to each sub-topic. They include the 80 on the free practice exam.
- Your weak topics, tracked. Every answer is recorded in your browser, so the app can show your accuracy by topic and send you back to the areas below the pass line.

Pearson VUE's Pennsylvania outlines give the national portion as 80 scored items in eight areas (salesperson counts) and the state portion as 40 scored items: 5, 8, 10, 11 and 6. A full timed exam here draws 80 national questions and 40 state questions in those counts, in the handbook's time for each portion; you can also time each portion on its own.

2How the Pennsylvania salesperson exam works
- Two portions. The salesperson exam has a national portion of eighty (80) scored items in 150 min and a state portion of 40 scored items for salesperson candidates in 60 min, plus pretest items that are not scored.
- Passing score. The handbook lists a minimum passing score of 75% for each portion. It also says the scaled score reported to you is neither the number of questions you answered correctly nor the percentage of questions you answered correctly, so the pass line used here is a guide to that figure, not a promise of your scaled result. If you pass one part and fail the other, you need to retake ONLY the failed part.
- Time limits. The salesperson authorization is good for 5 years after passing the first education course, and Exam results are good for 3 years from the date of passing.
- Fee. Pearson VUE charges $52 for the national portion and $49 for the state portion.

3A sample Pennsylvania question
This is one of the Pennsylvania questions in the pass, shown with its explanation and the law it comes from.
Within one brokerage, one salesperson is the designated agent for a seller and another is the designated agent for a buyer interested in that seller's home. When must the buyer's designated agent tell the buyer that the seller is also represented by a licensee employed by the same broker?
- At first contact with the seller's designated agent
- At settlement
- Within five days after the agreement of sale is signed
- Prior to writing or presenting an offer to purchase
Answer and explanation
Answer D: Prior to writing or presenting an offer to purchase
When designated agents of the same broker represent both principals, each designated agent must make a disclosure to the principal. The disclosure states that the other party is also represented by a licensee employed with the same broker, and it is due prior to writing or presenting an offer to purchase. The disclosure must also confirm that the broker is a dual agent. Waiting until after the agreement of sale, or until settlement, is too late.
