1What is in the pass
- Timed exams, as many as you want. Each one is 120 questions in 240 minutes, with the general portion drawn across PSI's national content areas in their published shares and the state portion in the salesperson item counts PSI's Minnesota outline gives, so a full timed exam is 80 general and 40 state questions, with questions you have not seen yet served first. You get your score against the 75% pass line and a score for each portion, since each portion is passed separately.
- Practice by topic. Pick any of the 8 national content areas or a Minnesota area, or the questions you missed last time. The right answer and the reason appear as soon as you answer.
- Minnesota questions with their law cited. 128 questions on Minnesota rules: who needs a license, trust accounts, the standards of conduct, the commissioner's powers, the recovery fund, the agency relationships disclosure, dual agency and facilitators, the seller's property disclosure, conveyance by spouses, subdivided lands, common interest community resale certificates, security deposits and other landlord-tenant rules, Torrens registration and the deed tax, statutory home warranties, the Human Rights Act, septic system and well disclosures, foreclosure redemption, contract for deed cancellation, homestead exemptions and mechanics' liens, and more. Each explanation names the Minnesota Statutes section it comes from, with the date it was read.
- National questions to the outline. 400 questions on the principles every state tests, weighted to Pearson VUE's national content outline, down to each sub-topic. They include the 80 on the free practice exam.
- Your weak topics, tracked. Every answer is recorded in your browser, so the app can show your accuracy by topic and send you back to the areas below the pass line.

PSI's Minnesota bulletin gives the general portion as a share of the exam for each content area and the state portion's salesperson items by area: 20, 8, 8 and 4. Its examination table lists the salesperson state portion as 50 items, but those outline counts add to 40 (the broker counts add to 50), so the timed state portion here is the outline's 40 salesperson questions in the table's time. A full timed exam draws 80 general questions in PSI's shares (rounded to whole questions) and 40 state questions in those counts; you can also time each portion on its own.

2How the Minnesota salesperson exam works
- Two portions. The salesperson exam has a general portion of 80 items in 2.5 Hours and a state portion in 1.5 Hours that PSI's table lists as 50 (50 points) items while its outline's salesperson counts add to 40. PSI may add a small number (5 to 10) of experimental questions that are not scored but count against examination time.
- Passing score. You must get 75% correct to pass each portion. Candidates who pass one portion and fail the other need to retake only the section they failed.
- Education first. Take Course I before the exam: If you are not exempt and take the examination before you have completed Course I, your exam results will be invalid.
- Fee. PSI charges $45 for one portion and $68 for the state and national combination.

3A sample Minnesota question
This is one of the Minnesota questions in the pass, shown with its explanation and the law it comes from.
A salesperson acts as a facilitator for a buyer, and there is no written facilitator services agreement. Apart from duties required by law, which duty does the facilitator owe the buyer?
- Confidentiality
- Loyalty
- Obedience
- Accounting
Answer and explanation
Answer A: Confidentiality
A facilitator performs services but does not represent a party in a fiduciary capacity. The only fiduciary duty a facilitator owes is confidentiality, plus any duties required by law or added in a written facilitator services agreement. Loyalty is the most tempting wrong answer, but acting only in a party's best interest is a duty of a seller's broker or buyer's broker, not a facilitator.
