1What is in the pass
- Timed exams, as many as you want. Each one is 120 questions in 240 minutes, with the general portion drawn across PSI's general content areas in their published shares and the state portion in the salesperson item counts PSI's Massachusetts outline gives, so a full timed exam is 80 general and 40 state questions, with questions you have not seen yet served first. You get your score against the 70% pass line and a score for each portion, since each portion is passed separately.
- Practice by topic. Pick any of the 8 national content areas or a Massachusetts area, or the questions you missed last time. The right answer and the reason appear as soon as you answer.
- Massachusetts questions with their law cited. 124 questions on Massachusetts rules: the Board's sanctions, who needs a license, renewal and continuing education, advertising, client funds, the licensee-consumer relationship disclosure, dual and designated agency, rental fee rules, chapter 93A, lead paint notice, smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, wetlands, Massachusetts fair housing law, security deposits and condominium liens, and more. Each explanation names the Massachusetts General Laws section or Board regulation (254 CMR) it comes from, with the date it was read.
- National questions to the outline. 400 questions on the principles every state tests, weighted to Pearson VUE's national content outline, down to each sub-topic. They include the 80 on the free practice exam.
- Your weak topics, tracked. Every answer is recorded in your browser, so the app can show your accuracy by topic and send you back to the areas below the pass line.

PSI's Massachusetts bulletin gives the general portion as a share of the exam for each content area and the state portion as item counts for salespersons: 2, 4, 13, 2, 5, 4, 4, 4 and 2 of the 40 state items. A full timed exam here draws 80 general questions in those shares (rounded to whole questions) and exactly 40 state questions in those counts; you can also time each portion on its own.

2How the Massachusetts salesperson exam works
- Two portions. The salesperson exam has a general portion of 80 questions in 150 minutes and a state portion of 40 questions in 90 minutes, 240 minutes when you take both. PSI may add 5 to 10 experimental questions that are not scored.
- Passing score. You need a minimum of 70% to pass. If you pass one portion and fail the other, you retake only the failed portion.
- Deadline. A failed portion must be passed within two years from the completion date on your Educational Certificate; if the certificate expires, the partial pass expires too.
- Fee. The PSI exam fee for salespersons is $56, and the same to retake.

3A sample Massachusetts question
This is one of the Massachusetts questions in the pass, shown with its explanation and the law it comes from.
A designated seller's agent knows two things: the seller must sell quickly because of a job transfer, and the roof has a known leak. The buyer's designated agent at the same firm asks about both. What may the designated seller's agent share?
- Neither item, because the designated agent exclusively represents the seller
- Both items, because both agents work for the same broker
- The roof leak may be shared, but the seller's urgency to sell may not
- The seller's urgency may be shared, but the roof leak may not
Answer and explanation
Answer C: The roof leak may be shared, but the seller's urgency to sell may not
A designated agent may not share information that would harm the client's interest, even with another agent in the same firm. Known material defects are the exception, and the designated agent actually has an affirmative duty to disclose them. The seller's urgency would harm the seller's bargaining position and stays confidential. Working for the same broker does not permit sharing it.
