1What is in the pass
- Timed exams, as many as you want. Each one is 140 questions in 240 minutes, with the national portion drawn across PSI's national content areas in their published shares and the state portion in the broker item counts PSI's Illinois outline gives, so a full timed exam is 100 national and 40 state questions, with questions you have not seen yet served first. You get a score for each portion against its own pass line: national portion 70%, state portion 75%.
- Practice by topic. Pick any of the 8 national content areas or an Illinois area, or the questions you missed last time. The right answer and the reason appear as soon as you answer.
- Illinois questions with their law cited. 171 questions on Illinois rules: who needs a license and the exemptions, sponsorship, renewal and post-license education, designated agency and dual agency, duties to clients and customers, advertising and team names, brokerage agreements, special accounts and earnest money, broker price opinions, grounds for discipline, the Residential Real Property Disclosure Act, radon and flood disclosures, fair housing and assistance animals, security deposits, the homestead exemption, condominium resale disclosures, transfer tax, the Plat Act and the commercial broker lien, and more. Each explanation names the Real Estate License Act of 2000 section, Department rule (68 Ill. Adm. Code 1450) or other Illinois statute it comes from, with the date it was read.
- National questions to the outline. 400 questions on the principles every state tests, weighted to Pearson VUE's national content outline, down to each sub-topic. They include the 80 on the free practice exam.
- Your weak topics, tracked. Every answer is recorded in your browser, so the app can show your accuracy by topic and send you back to the areas below the pass line.

PSI's Illinois booklet gives the national portion as a share of the exam for each content area (on a 100-item portion the shares are item counts) and the state portion as broker shares and item counts: 4, 16, 10 and 10 of the 40 state items. A full timed exam here draws 100 national questions in those shares and exactly 40 state questions in those counts; you can also time each portion on its own.

2How the Illinois broker exam works
- Two portions. The broker exam has a national portion of 100 questions in 150 minutes and a state portion of 40 questions in 90 minutes. PSI may add a small number (5 to 10) of experimental questions that are not scored but count against examination time.
- Passing score. You need 70% on the national portion and 75% on the state portion; PSI notes that the national passing score is equivalent to a scaled score of 75 as previously reported. If you fail a portion, you will only be required to repeat the portion(s) that you failed.
- Attempts and fee. Broker candidates are allowed up to four attempts to pass the examination during their 2-year eligibility period. The broker exam fee is $58, and you must apply for licensure within one year of passing the appropriate examination(s).

3A sample Illinois question
This is one of the Illinois questions in the pass, shown with its explanation and the law it comes from.
A broker represents two buyer clients, and both want to make offers on the same house. Which statement correctly describes the broker's obligations?
- The broker must stop representing both buyers
- The broker may proceed after telling both buyers orally
- The broker must give written disclosure to both buyers and refer either buyer who asks to another designated agent
- The broker may proceed only with the listing seller's written consent
Answer and explanation
Answer C: The broker must give written disclosure to both buyers and refer either buyer who asks to another designated agent
Making or preparing contemporaneous offers on the same property is not a breach of duty. However, the licensee must give written disclosure to every client involved and must refer to another designated agent any client who requests it. Oral notice, as option B suggests, does not meet the written disclosure requirement, and the Act does not require the broker to withdraw or to get the seller's consent.
