Pearson VUE's Idaho outlines give the general portion as 80 scored items across eight areas and the Idaho state portion of the salesperson exam as 40 scored items, with each state area given as a share of the salesperson exam; those shares come to whole numbers of the 40 items (2, 4, 16, 10, 2 and 6), used here as item counts. The real exam also carries 5 general and 5 to 10 state pretest items that are not scored; the timed exam here draws only the scored items and runs both portions in the four hours the handbook gives the exam.

2How the Idaho salesperson exam works
- Two portions. The exam has a general portion of eighty (80) scored items and a state portion of forty (40) scored items for salesperson candidates, plus five to ten (5-10) pretest items on the state portion that do not count. Each candidate will have four (4) hours to complete the examination.
- Passing score. The handbook says The passing point is reported as a score of 70 for the salesperson examination and that the score should not be interpreted as the percentage or number of questions answered correctly on the examination, so the timed exams here score you against a study target instead.
- Retakes. If you pass one section and fail the other, you need to retake only the section they failed, as long as they pass the failed section within one (1) year of the date of the passed section.
- Fee. The exam fee is $83.

3A sample Idaho question
This is one of the Idaho questions in the pass, shown with its explanation and the law it comes from.
A for-sale-by-owner seller signs a written agreement to pay a fee to the brokerage that represents a buyer. The seller has no representation agreement with that brokerage. Does the fee agreement make the brokerage the seller's agent?
- No, a written agreement only for payment of compensation does not create an agency relationship
- Yes, the party who pays the brokerage is its principal
- Yes, but only as a limited dual agent of both buyer and seller
- Yes, once the fee is actually paid at closing
Answer and explanation
Answer A: No, a written agreement only for payment of compensation does not create an agency relationship
In Idaho, neither paying compensation nor signing a written agreement only to pay compensation to a brokerage creates agency representation. Agency comes from the representation agreement, not from who pays the fee. The old notion that the party who pays is the principal does not apply. The fee does not create dual agency either, before or after it is paid.
