1What is in the pass
- Timed exams, as many as you want. Each one is 110 questions in 210 minutes, with the general portion drawn across PSI's national content areas in their published shares and the District portion in the salesperson item counts PSI's outline gives, so a full timed exam is 80 general and 30 District questions, with questions you have not seen yet served first. You get your score against the 75% pass line and a score for each portion, since each portion is passed separately.
- Practice by topic. Pick any of the 8 national content areas or a District of Columbia area, or the questions you missed last time. The right answer and the reason appear as soon as you answer.
- District of Columbia questions with their law cited. 127 questions on District of Columbia rules: who needs a license and the exemptions, transfers and changes of status, renewal, inactive status and continuing education, the Commission's discipline, hearings and fines, the Guaranty and Education Fund, brokerage relationships and the duties to sellers, buyers, landlords and tenants, designated and dual representatives, disclosure of brokerage relationships, escrow accounts, written listings, supervision, the code of ethics, advertising, the seller's disclosure statement, condominium resale certificates, the tenant opportunity to purchase and the Human Rights Act, and more. Each explanation names the D.C. Code section or municipal regulation (17 DCMR) it comes from, with the date it was read.
- National questions to the outline. 400 questions on the principles every state tests, weighted to Pearson VUE's national content outline, down to each sub-topic. They include the 80 on the free practice exam.
- Your weak topics, tracked. Every answer is recorded in your browser, so the app can show your accuracy by topic and send you back to the areas below the pass line.

PSI's District of Columbia bulletin gives the general portion as a share of the exam for each content area and the District portion as item counts for salespersons: 6, 4 and 20 of the 30 District items. A full timed exam here draws 80 general questions in those shares (rounded to whole questions) and exactly 30 District questions in those counts; you can also time each portion on its own.

2How the District of Columbia salesperson exam works
- Two portions. The salesperson exam has a general portion of 80 (80 points) questions in 120 Minutes and a District portion of 30 (30 points) in 90 Minutes, 210 Minutes for both. PSI may add a small number (up to 10) of non-scored items: These questions will NOT be scored and time to answer them has been added to the time allowed.
- Passing score. You need to score a minimum of 75% correct to pass. Candidates who fail one portion of the examination and pass the other need retake only the portion they failed, and Any failed portion must be passed within six (6) months of the first examination attempt.
- Fee. The examination fee is $79 regardless if you are taking one portion or both portions.

3A sample District of Columbia question
This is one of the District of Columbia questions in the pass, shown with its explanation and the law it comes from.
During a transaction, a salesperson discloses a proposed dual representation, and the buyer client refuses to consent. Under District law, the salesperson:
- Must continue representing both parties anyway
- May withdraw, without liability, from representing the buyer, which terminates that brokerage relationship
- Is barred from ever representing that buyer in any future transaction
- Must also withdraw from representing the seller
Answer and explanation
Answer B: May withdraw, without liability, from representing the buyer, which terminates that brokerage relationship
A licensee may withdraw, without liability, from representing a client who refuses to consent to a disclosed dual representation. Withdrawal ends the brokerage relationship with that client. Withdrawal does not force the licensee to drop the other client, and it does not prevent future representation of the refusing client in transactions that do not involve dual representation.
