3How to choose between them
- Check the board's list first. Approval lapses and new providers are added; the board's page linked above is current on the day you look, this page on the date shown.
- Format. Classroom, live online and self-paced online courses all satisfy the requirement where the board approves them, but they suit different people; a self-paced course with no deadline is where most people stall.
- Exam preparation. The course teaches the syllabus; passing the exam is a separate skill. Ask whether practice exams are included and whether the school publishes its pass rate, then compare that claim with the board's table above.
- Price. The Commission does not publish tuition, so compare it yourself and add the state's own fees from the Maryland guide.
- Post-licence and CE. Some states require a course in the first year; a school that also teaches that saves a second search. The guide says what Maryland requires.

- The Commission lists 57 providers (as read on the date shown): 1ST CHOICE REAL ESTATE ACADEMY, ACADEMY OF REAL ESTATE, ALLEGANY COLLEGE OF MD, ANNE ARUNDEL COMMUNITY COLLEGE, BALT CITY COMMUNITY COLLEGE-HARBOR, BENNETT ACADEMY OF REAL ESTATE, CAREER ACADEMY OF RE, CARROLL CNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE and others. Only a course from a provider on the board's list counts toward the licence.
- What is the best real estate school in Maryland?
- The Commission publishes exam pass rates by school rather than a ranking. For January 1 to December 31, 2024, among schools with 20 or more candidates, CECIL COMMUNITY COLLEGE had the highest pass rate at 45.5%. Pass rates reflect who enrols as much as how well a school teaches, so read them with the candidate counts.
- Can I take the Maryland pre-licence course online?
- Yes. The Commission marks 10 of the listed providers as online or distance education.
- How many hours is the Maryland pre-licence course?
